is an opportunity to merge the independence of traditional homeschooling with the structure and collaboration of a classroom environment. Ideally, it is the best of both worlds! PreK through 8th grade (2026-27) students gather with experienced, qualified teachers twice weekly for the core subjects, plus Spanish, music and art, with the unified mission to build a community where children flourish in their curiosity of the world, while discovering their God-given purpose and potential. At CULTIVATE, it’s about nurturing our cognition, creativity and character.

This hybrid model only thrives if both teachers and parents partner in the educational process. Thus, we’ve made it easy by curating the curriculum and providing a solid, clear plan to implement at home. Defined as “classical with a twist,” we strive for academic excellence, yet simplicity.

CULTIVATE

WE CULTIVATE:

  • Truth - seekers and defenders

  • Honorable citizens of courage, justice, mercy and humility

  • Diligent workers who give their best effort with a sense of purpose

Our Values:

Community

Much of our curriculum is classical, grounded in a Protestant, Judeo-Christian context, and we emphasize those values through literacy with our students; however, we do not conduct Bible classes or chapel. While we open each day with prayer, we believe it is the parents’ duty and privilege to instruct their children in spiritual practices. All families are welcome to join our hybrid group, with the understanding of a Biblical worldview, supported with actions and words that reflect Christ-like virtues.

Distinguishing Features:

Enrichment Included

We believe that music, art, and foreign language enhance the core subjects; thus, we build those courses into our daily campus schedule. Our students practice conversational Spanish, they learn how to read musical notational and play various instruments, they rehearse the step sequences to traditional folk dances, they design artistic creations through a wide variety of mediums, they sing in harmony and in various languages, and they learn about the great masters of art and music. Performance skills and repertoire are showcased in an annual concert.

Community Gatherings and Events

Our community is alive and active, participating in frequent fieldtrips that coincide with our science and history studies (e.g. Lowell Observatory, Meteor Crater, MCC Planetarium, Phoenix Symphony, Ballet AZ, Reigning Grace Ranch, AZ Museum of Natural History, Kartchner Caverns, etc) along with special events on and off campus organized by contributing parents (Greek Olypmics, Thanksgiving Feast, Beatrix Potter picnic, rocket launch, caroling at senior centers, daddy/daughter dance, sword-casting and geode-cracking workshops, science fair, etc). Additionally, many of us meet up for a Friday hike.

Small Class Sizes

We adamantly adhere to a small student/teacher ratio for both math and language arts classes, not exceeding 9 students to one teacher for all levels and ages. This is intentionally designed to give each child the individual attention and support they both need and deserve, creating close-knit relationships between classmates, as well as between teacher and student. Our children thrive in this arrangement!

Family-Style Learning

Our hybrid model is established on building family unity and cohesiveness for homeschooling parents, so we maintain family-style (shared content, differentiated depths) for both history and science. We have a 3-year cycle for those topics, spiraling through and building on units like ancient history, American history, botany, human anatomy, astronomy, geology and zoology.

Leveled Groups

Contrary to traditional institutions, our students are grouped according to skill level and mental acuity in both math and language arts. This format allows each child to work in their optimal zone of learning, challenged but not overwhelmed, at a healthy pace. A student may change groups seamlessly throughout the year if necessary, mastering essential skills and concepts that propel them forward.

Amenities

Our learning environment includes a beautiful and vibrant garden that invites nurture and observation, as well as an extensive library full of rich, living books, organized to welcome inquisitive minds and to foster a love of reading. These books are shared and go home through a borrowing system.

Curriculum

  • We provide a recommendation list for parents of various math curriculums that are designed for distinct learning styles, from which the parents choose. Some include Primary Math 2022 (formerly Singapore Math), The Good and the Beautiful, Math with Confidence and Math-U-See. Students take a placement test upon enrollment to determine the group best suited for their aptitude, and on CULTIVATE days, we spend our math period playing games with plenty of manipulatives to reinforce the foundational concepts of numeric and quantitative logic. Through math games and simulated real-world scenarios that reinforce commerce skills, math becomes fun and applicable, and students gain mastery and fluency. It is game-based for 4th grade and lower, but our older students receive math tutoring on CULTIVATE days, working through their individual textbook.

  • Students learn the fundamentals of the English language, how it functions phonetically, leading to reading and comprehension, understanding vocabulary and grammar, and eventually mastering the art of writing/composition. We adhere to the Orton-Gillingham approach presented in the All About Reading program for younger students. For the upper grades, we implement the methodologies of Fix It! Grammar from IEW (Institute for Excellence in Writing). All students are exposed to rich, classical literature and poetry that emphasizes strong character development and important moral themes. Older students participate in literature discussions, complete comprehension and vocabulary studies, and have sequential writing assignments.

  • We believe in promoting a strong, healthy patriotism for our American heritage, passing down the great traditions of Western Civilization. We emphasize the blessing of a democracy, and our agency and duty as citizens, adhering to the values of Constitution. Every three years, we cycle through periods of Ancient World history, Medieval Ages, and Early American history and, utilizing The Story of the World (Susan Wise Bauer) and a variety of vibrant literature through living books, much of which comes recommended by Beautiful Feet Publishers. Family-style is the best!

  • Exploring God’s world is endlessly intriguing! Younger students embark on gentle, Charlotte-Mason-style lessons through Science for Little Hearts and Hands (TGTB) , covering seasonal subjects like animals, trees and plants, weather, moon phases, rocks, biomes, etc. Every three years, students 2nd grade and older cycle through the units of astronomy, geology, botany, human anatomy, zoology and meteorology (one unit per semester). We delve into the content using Apologia science curriculum, incorporating hands-on experiments, nature journaling and quality short videos, creating space for wonder and investigation. Many of our monthly fieldtrips are relevant to our science topics. We teach through the Biblical lens of a six-day Creation, and we strive to keep both science and history family-style, where all siblings are learning about the same topics simultaneously, but at different depths.

  • We believe that the beauty of the world is most appreciated, expressed and experienced through the visual arts and the performance arts, specifically ensemble music-making and singing. We strive to expose students to a wide variety of styles and mediums where which they express themselves and learn about others interpretations of the world. Our wonderful art teacher, Victoria King, also incorporates watercolor nature journaling with our students. Additionally, we provide a few performance opportunities for students to develop stage confidence while they grace their audience with musical artistry. Our enthusiastic Spanish teacher gives the students weekly instruction in conversational foreign language.

Location

We meet at a church campus in south Scottsdale, just off the 101 every Tuesday and Wednesday, from 8:30am until 2:30pm (2pm for PreK through 2nd grade). Parents drop students off, and between classes, there is plenty of grassy run-around space, including a playground to expend physical energy and a field for soccer and kickball games, along with a tetherball pole and a volleyball net. We are privileged with a vibrantly beautiful garden so our hands can plant, nuture, cultivate and harvest!

Structure

Children are grouped in combinations according to their skill level, not exceeding 9 students to one teacher during language arts and math. Optimizing our time together, we incorporate and prioritize movement, discussion, games and projects, all the while honoring parents as the primary educator at home. Students have meaningful work to complete on home days, and curriculum transfers from campus to home with a clear scope and sequence for parents to follow. Essentially, math and language arts are implemented at least twice weekly at home, and any literature, science or history content is read at home in preparation for class time.

Tuition

As an ESA approved vendor, we charge an annual tuition of $5,400 (PreK and Kinder) and $6,400 (1st-8th grade) which covers facilities, experienced teachers, insurance, security and curriculum/materials. Payments are made quarterly and a deposit is required upon enrolling. Following a standard school schedule, we meet for a total of 37 weeks, starting August 25th, 2026, with two weeks off for Christmas and a one week break in spring.
